Power will be out for up to 5 hours across Amelia Island on Friday as a major line is repaired — St. Augustine Community news

A power outage affecting all of Amelia Island began at 12:30 p.m. Friday as crews work to repair a major power line in the area of Shuckers off State Road 200. The city of Fernandina Beach said the line was compromised, affecting both Florida Power Light and Florida Public Utilities. The nature of the damage to the power line is forcing the power outage, which the city said could last 4 to 5 hours. The city is asking everyone to stay off the island unless travel there is absolutely necessary.Drivers are urged to use extreme caution at intersections, treat non-functioning traffic signals as four-way stops, and follow directions from law enforcement on scene. The Nassau County Supervisor of Elections said that the Atlantic Rec Center will remain open under generator power for those wanting to early vote before 6 p.m. Friday.
